Occasionally new icons are used with PCSchool’s Back Office Application which need to be installed on the local client computer. This normally presents itself as empty spaces on the icon bar as shown below. If this is the case, the following steps will rectify the issue.
- Download the latest Bitmaps file
- Check the pcschool.ws file pathing
- Restart PCSchool
Step 1 – Download the latest Bitmaps files
Download the latest Bitmaps file from http://pcschool.net/download/Bitmaps.zip This needs to be extracted to the PCSchool server’s …\PCSchool\Bitmaps folder as well as to the local client computers “Bitmaps” folder. This is at the same level as the “Programs” folder that PCSchool runs from.
Step 2 – Check the pcschool.ws file pathing
It also pays to check that the path within the local pcschool.ws file is pointing to the server’s location. The pcschool.ws file is unique per client computer and is located in the “Programs” folder that PCSchool runs from. Edit this file using notepad. The “BitmapPath” key can include multiple file paths (semicolon separated) which PCSchool uses to locate the icons. By default, this key is set to look at the local folder, as well as the servers …\PCSchool\Bitmaps\Students folder. It is recommended that you copy the server’s location and paste to the end of the paths but remove the “\students” sub-folder.
The changes will not appear until PCSchool is restarted. Close PCSchool and re-open it. The icons should now appear correctly as shown below.
